Our monthly meet-up for February with ZeroWaste Gurgaon was a hit among both citizens and villagers. As usual, we engaged in an activity to encourage environmental consciousness. This time, our meet-up comprised three elements:
DIY Organic Household Product - A potent surface cleaner made from waste.
Trash to Treasure Exhibition - People had the chance to explore pre-loved items priced at just Rs. 20. One man’s trash is another person’s treasure.
Azadwadi Co-creation - As part of the trash to treasure initiative, we invited people to bring any pre-loved item that could perfectly add to the ambiance of Azadwadi.
The event began with a quick introduction round. People from as far as Noida joined the event. Most of the participants were inclined and convinced to do something for nature. They just didn’t know what options they had, and obviously, they were quite intrigued by the idea of making a surface cleaner from fruit waste. The main attraction of the event was a 100% natural and potent cleaning solution, technically called BIOENZYME.
Juhi, the founder of Zero Waste Gurgaon, arranged and collected citrus peels (orange peels) from a juice vendor for this DIY activity. Her daughter, Kashvi, is so familiar with this process that she also briefed and aided the team in facilitation. The ZWG team was convinced to provide a hands-on experience rather than presenting the session as a seminar. After observing and understanding the whole process, participants attempted to make this magical solution on their own. Apart from the participants, villagers also learned and made their batch of bioenzyme. Everyone was so mesmerized to know how citrus peel (often thrown as waste) can be used to make such a wonderful solution, which can be used as a floor cleaner, toilet cleaner, and dishwashing liquid. It’s basically a surface cleaner that can be used on any kind of surface - glass, metal, wood, tile.
The other element of ‘trash to treasure’ became famous among villagers as they were so surprised to get everything at such an economical price.
