Manifestation
Forest Iscool reflects the aspirations of parents who have a deep awareness of reality and the courage to question and reshape the social system. It extends beyond a mere transition between schools; it represents a significant shift from one lifestyle to another, from one dimension to another. Forest Iscool is not the creation of a single person or the initiation of a specific group; rather, it has materialized through individuals who understand the corruption within schools, medical care, society, and within families, along with the widespread extent of greed we are grappling with. This manifestation is driven by collective awareness and a persistent desire to address and transcend these issues.
This childhood memory of my struggles with conventional education became the driving force behind my journey into alternative, nature-based education, laying the foundation for 'Forest Iscool.' Forest Iscool promotes embracing one's true self, fostering a deep connection with nature to aid self-discovery and heal past traumas. In this unique educational approach, children are encouraged to be themselves, free to play, run, fall, cry, laugh, and shout, with adult supervision ensuring their safety. Our goal is not to win a race but to embrace life as it is, connecting with every aspect of our mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social well-being. Azadwadi Forest Iscool strives to nurture future contributors who shape society in harmony with nature's laws and principles, fostering a safe, non-judgmental, and inclusive space for our children and our community.
Forest Iscool - The name
In small towns and villages in our areas, students don't pronounce 'school' as 'school.' They pronounce it as 'ischool' with an extra 'e' sound at the beginning. When I went to Fine Arts college in MSU Baroda, some friends from international schools poked fun at my pronunciation. After practice, I could pronounce it 'correctly.' While thinking of a name, this local pronunciation sparked the idea to twist and turn the spelling and phonetics to distinguish us from traditional schools and create our own cool school. It also directly portrays that "Forest is cool.
Questioning the Status Quo
We humans are not made to sit and learn. Our limbs and senses are designed to explore the real world, not to absorb second-hand bookish knowledge about society and how it should be. Our legs are developed for running, walking, jumping, and climbing trees, not for sitting in front of a screen or on a chair.
Today's traditional schools are nothing but factories that produce physically and mentally weak individuals who often end up as corporate and factory laborers, bearing titles like doctor, officer, engineer, artist, 'farmer,' and teacher, for the benefit of a privileged few. I always think about and provide the example of cities like Delhi and other metropolises, which have the highest number of universities and scholars. While the notion of "great minds" may sound impressive and ideal, a closer look at the reality reveals that these places lack clean air, clean water, wholesome food, good health, and a sense of safety. Loneliness pervades in small families, burdened with hidden traumas."
On the contrary, people who cannot read or write or have little bookish knowledge and living in the forest and villages have access to fundamental necessities: clean air, clean water, clean food, good physical health, and the support of extended families living together. This raises questions about where these "great minds" are leading us.
We should all ask ourselves these questions: Where are we, and where are our children headed? What will their future be like?
